As part of the Shiseido Group, NARS is known world-wide for its luxury make-up, which focuses on bringing out each customers individual personality using cosmetics. The collections are timeless but still manage to be provocative and original by using new colours and textures. The products are high-end and the sleek packaging they are housed in radiate luxury.

For Christmas 2019, NARS decided to create a unique box for their festive products to be sold in Sephora, the premium global retailer. As NARS would have to adhere to Sephora’s specific guidelines for packaging, they brought the challenge to Maxipos to see if we could help.

Out brief was to provide a carton that also doubled as a bauble which housed the products of their Christmas line and could also be retailed as an interesting stocking filler. Using 466mic folding box board, we made an easy-to-open, pop-up carton formed from a cube base and a lift-off lid.

The cartons needed to be a true, deep black and this was achieved by using 5 colour (CMYK + black) printing techniques and water based matt varnish. For the NARS logo, we then applied gold foil blocking which added to the Christmas aesthetic.

15,000 Christmas boxes were completed and delivered to the warehouse, located in France, in time to be sent out to Sephora shops across Europe.
