Annie Sloan – Rigid Slipcase Box with Fitment

Annie Sloan transformed the world of furniture in 1990 when she created Chalk Paint®– produced from her knowledge of colour, paint, pigments and art history. Since then, Annie has led the decorative painting revolution and is now widely recognised as one of the world’s most respected experts in paint and colour.

In 2000 Annie set up a shop in Oxford to showcase her Chalk Paint®, run courses and offer her interior design services to others.

When she reached out to Maxipos to help produce a set of custom rigid boxes to house a selection of paint tins, we were excited at the opportunity to work with such a successful and local business.

Annie’s Chalk Paint® collaboration with the Charleston Trust is inspired by the Bloomsbury group of artists who occupied the farmhouse during the early 20thcentury. It is the artwork within Charleston that Annie’s distinctive, limited edition and exclusive colours of Chalk Paint® are based upon.

The custom rigid boxes that Maxipos were asked to produce for this range needed to hold three Chalk Paint® pots so had to be sturdy and rigid. We therefore provided a number of different styles and shapes of boxes to Annie Sloan before they decided upon a slipcase and drawer style box.

Maxipos were then faced with the challenge of matching the colour of the custom rigid drawer boxes exactly to the Chalk Paint® colours that Annie had specifically produced to reflect the home of the Bloomsbury artists.

After the three different colours and designs were finalised, the exterior sides of the slipcases were printed CMYK, whilst the interior sides of the drawers were kept black. A matt lamination was also added to the outside of both the slipcase and drawer.

Our UK factory then inserted the drawers into the slipcases before polybagging and packing them into suitable cartons to be palletised.

Annie Sloan initially ordered 6,000 units of the slipcases and drawer boxes but due to the success of the promotion, the boxes have been re-ordered twice since. Overall, 21,000 units of the Charleston Chalk Paint® custom rigid drawer boxes have been produced across the three designs.

The rigid drawer box is a staple of the luxury brand industry. It provides consumers with an easily accessible place for their product and it’s presentation, and also serves to protect the object inside, while also providing easy access.

Rigid boxes allow you to truly personalise your very own bespoke luxury packaging, for products with a higher price point or an increased fragility.
